Red Sox consider trading second baseman Marcelo Mayer as playoff push looms

Boston Red Sox officials are reportedly evaluating second baseman Marcelo Mayer as a potential trade asset before the August 3 trade deadline. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal noted that the Los Angeles Angels’ shortstop Zach Neto is seen as a strong fit for Boston, and that the Angels would likely request multiple young players in return for Neto, with Mayer possibly among them.

Interim manager Chad Tracy dismissed any internal concerns about Mayer and outfielder Roman Anthony, stating, “Not even remotely on my radar,” and emphasizing a focus on keeping the team healthy for a postseason run. The Red Sox have turned a recent 15‑game win streak into a contender status in the American League, shifting from a seller to a buyer mindset as the season reaches its final months.
