By early August, the Red Sox completed a deal sending top prospect Marcelo Mayer to the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline. The move was framed by Red Sox chief business officer Craig Breslow as a strategy to bolster the bullpen rather than a response to off‑field issues. Following the Mayer trade, the organization has turned its focus to 20-year-old shortstop prospect Franklin Arias. Currently playing in Triple-A with a .326 average and a .981 OPS, Arias is viewed as a potential long-term solution for the position.
