ReData to incentivize decentralized data centers in Brazil
The Special Tax Regime for Data Center Services (ReData) is expected to decentralize data processing in Brazil by encouraging the installation of smaller, distributed edge computing infrastructures. During the Data Center World Brasil event in São Paulo, industry experts noted that these smaller facilities are essential for low-latency applications, such as artificial intelligence and real-time services, by bringing processing power closer to end users.
Currently, data infrastructure is heavily concentrated in Brazil's most developed regions. ReData aims to address this imbalance by providing additional incentives for companies to establish operations in the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions. Milton Kashiwakura, director of NIC.br, highlighted existing difficulties in finding quality infrastructure in the Central-West and Northeast areas. The initiative seeks to meet the rising demand for cloud computing and large-scale data management through a more geographically distributed network.
