Reddit to end RSS support and restrict Old Reddit access to combat AI scraping

Reddit has announced several major changes to its platform access, primarily aimed at combating large-scale scraping and automated abuse by AI bots.

On November 13, 2026, the company will discontinue support for RSS feeds. Reddit noted that RSS has become a “common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse.” While moderators are encouraged to migrate to the Discord Relay Devvit app, the company stated there is no direct replacement for users monitoring communities outside of moderation duties.

Additionally, Reddit plans to end public API access by March 2027. The company will stop accepting new API requests on October 31, 2026, and will begin removing unregistered apps and users starting January 12, 2027. Following this shutdown, AI services and research tools seeking data will likely need to enter into commercial licensing agreements with Reddit.

Access to the classic “Old Reddit” interface will also be restricted. In the coming months, access will be limited to logged-in users who have utilized the Old Reddit interface within the previous six months. Community moderators will be exempt from this specific usage requirement.
