Reddit platform access and API restrictions

Overview

Reddit has announced a series of platform changes designed to combat large-scale scraping and automated abuse by AI bots. The company plans to discontinue support for RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, noting that the technology has become a “common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse.”

Further restrictions involve the platform’s API. Reddit will stop accepting new API requests on October 31, 2026, with a full phase-out of public API access scheduled for March 2027. To assist the transition, the company is offering a $1 million pool to provide $1,000 incentives to eligible migrating apps via its new Developer Platform. Following the shutdown, AI services and research tools will likely be required to enter commercial licensing agreements to access data.

Additionally, access to the “Old Reddit” interface will be limited. Future access will be restricted to community moderators and logged-in users who have utilized the interface within the previous six months.
