Reddit to phase out RSS feeds and public API access by 2027

Reddit has announced a phased plan to shut down its RSS feeds and public API access to combat large-scale automated scraping and abuse, much of which is linked to AI training.

According to the company's timeline, RSS support will end on November 13, 2026. The company will stop accepting new API requests on October 31, 2026, with full public API access scheduled to end by March 2027. While Reddit is providing a transition path for developers via its new Developer Platform—including a $1 million pool to offer $1,000 incentives to eligible migrating apps—regular users and those using RSS for non-moderation purposes will have no direct replacement.

Additionally, Reddit plans to limit access to the ‘old Reddit’ interface within the coming months. Access will be restricted to moderators and users who have logged in within the last six months. These changes represent a significant shift for researchers and businesses that rely on automated data collection to monitor brand mentions and consumer sentiment.
