Red.es accountant alleges direct order to erase contract data linked to businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés
Claudia C., an accountant at the public company Red.es, reported to the police that her superior, Guillermo Tapia Poza, ordered her on 14 July to permanently delete the accounting records of file 044/20‑ED. The file concerns a 2021 contract awarded to a joint venture of Innova Next (part of the Barrabés Group) and KPMG.
The contract is one of three under investigation by the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Guardia Civil and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office for possible prevarication favoring offers presented by Juan Carlos Barrabés, a friend of Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spain’s prime minister. Claudia C. delivered the original, unaltered documents to investigators on 16 July to preserve traceability of the alleged alterations.
Authorities are examining whether the alleged directive to erase the data was intended to conceal irregularities in the procurement process and whether the involvement of the president’s spouse influenced the awards.
