Redondela Council accuses Xunta of neglecting public schools

The Redondela City Council has accused the Xunta de Galicia of “total abandonment” regarding the maintenance and structural improvement of public schools and institutes within the municipality.

Mayor Digna Rivas and Education Councilor Alberto Álvarez highlighted several facilities with significant deficiencies. Specifically, the CEIP Laredo in Chapela faces risks of roof collapses, requiring a security perimeter installed by the local council in early 2025. Other schools, such as CEP Santa Mariña and CEIP Outeiro das Penas, report issues with facades, staircases, and heating systems. Additionally, the EEI A Marisma continues to lack a dining service, forcing students to use a local facility provided by the municipality.

The local government is demanding that the regional executive assume its responsibilities for structural repairs in buildings that are often 40 to 50 years old, noting that previous requests for urgent meetings have gone unanswered.
