Regenerative agriculture in Spain targets wildfire prevention

Regenerative agricultural practices in Spain are being utilized to mitigate the risks of increasing wildfires caused by heatwaves and drought. In regions like Catalonia, farmers are implementing proactive measures, such as installing strategic water reservoirs, to defend territories against the growing threat of seasonal fires.

In a broader initiative, the Fundación Global Nature is coordinating regenerative livestock efforts across 20,000 hectares in Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, and the Valencian Community. By utilizing planned grazing, livestock help manage dry brush and weeds naturally, acting as a defense mechanism against wildfires while simultaneously restoring soil health and promoting biodiversity.
