Reggio Calabria aims to boost international profile through maritime events

Reggio Calabria is positioning itself to host more international events to enhance its regional profile. During a press conference for the OptiSud – Mediterranean Cup, a youth sailing event scheduled for September 11-12 in the Strait, City Council President Federico Milia emphasized the need for the city to move beyond being perceived as a peripheral or provincial location.

Milia stated that the administration aims to leverage the territory's natural resources and maritime assets, including the port and Sea Museum, to attract national and international interest. The strategy focuses on using sports and cultural initiatives to transform the city into a major Mediterranean protagonist.
