Reggio Calabria authorities respond to youth violence and crime
Authorities in Reggio Calabria are addressing recent incidents of youth violence and social disorder. On October 3, a 13-year-old boy was chased through a crowded shopping area by a group of approximately ten youths, aged between 12 and 17. The teenager sought refuge in a local shop, where employees and customers intervened to protect him from the group. Following the incident, police arrived to manage a crowd that had gathered and was shouting insults. Five youths later voluntarily went to a Carabinieri station, claiming they were defending a friend. The matter has been referred to the Juvenile Court.
In a separate report regarding September enforcement actions, the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters announced several measures to curb crime and public disturbances. These include five 'Daspo' bans, primarily targeting football fans, and twelve 'Dacur' orders (prohibitions on entering urban areas) issued to youths involved in violent brawls near public venues. Additionally, authorities issued warnings regarding domestic violence and stalking, and proposed seven special public security surveillance measures for individuals linked to organized crime and mafia-related activities.
