Reggio Calabria hosts road safety campaign for designated drivers

The national road safety campaign ‘Questa sera guido io’ (Tonight I am driving) recently held an event in the province of Reggio Calabria. The initiative focuses on promoting the concept of a designated driver, where one person in a group chooses not to consume alcohol to ensure everyone returns home safely.

Promoted by the Polizia di Stato in collaboration with Fondazione ANIA, SILB FIPE, SIB FIPE, and FederBalneari Italia, the campaign engaged approximately 50 young people and beachgoers at a seaside establishment on the Tyrrhenian coast. The event utilized dialogue, informative materials, and films to discuss safety rather than relying solely on prohibitions. To support the initiative, the beach club offered non-alcoholic aperitifs, and Fondazione ANIA provided free disposable breathalyzers for participants to check their sobriety. During the accompanying operational checks conducted by the Polizia Stradale, 72 drivers were tested, and none returned positive for alcohol.
