Calabria reactivates diaspora council to boost tourism and investment

The Calabria Region has resumed activities of the Consulta dei Calabresi nel Mondo after a seven-year hiatus. The organization aims to strengthen ties with the Calabrian diaspora to promote economic development, identity, and 'roots tourism.' Officials emphasized the need to transform these global connections into investment opportunities and organized tourism rather than just spontaneous visits to family.

In Reggio Calabria, the Metropolitan City Council held sessions to address several administrative matters. These included budget variations for 2026-2028, global insurance coverage for municipal buildings, and a €300,000 investment to support a network of typical restaurants in the Greek Calabria area. Additionally, an institutional coordination table was established to monitor wage transparency and combat the gender pay gap in the metropolitan area.

Local stakeholders, including representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and various trade unions, are participating in efforts to implement EU directives regarding pay transparency and pre-employment disclosure requirements.
