Palermo's Renzo Barbera stadium renovation plan stalled
The municipal secretary general of Palermo, Raimondo Liotta, warned that the renovation and modernization plan for the Renzo Barbera stadium is incomplete. Critical technical opinions, signatures and required documents from the city’s Patrimonio, Urbanistica and other departments are missing, and some files exist only on external digital platforms instead of the official municipal archive. Because of these gaps the city council cannot vote on the proposal, jeopardising the July 31 deadline for approval.
The stalled plan includes a new 90‑year convention between the municipality and Palermo FC and is linked to Palermo’s bid to host matches for Euro 2032. Until the documentation is fully completed, the council’s deliberation will be postponed, delaying the stadium’s revamp and the city’s preparation for the tournament.
