Reggio Emilia launches international call for Fotografia Europea artistic direction 2027‑2029

The Fotografia Europea festival in Reggio Emilia has opened an international public call to select a new artistic direction that will lead the event in its 2027, 2028 and 2029 editions. The initiative is jointly organised by the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani and the Comune di Reggio Emilia.

Mayor Marco Massari and cultural assessor Marco Mietto said the call aims to bring fresh ideas and expertise from Italian and foreign curators, collectives and artistic professionals. The goal is to evolve the festival into a permanent cultural platform that operates year‑round through exhibitions, research, training, residencies, commissions and participatory projects, while keeping the spring festival as its flagship moment. The appointed direction will be tasked with strengthening the festival’s international profile, research focus and organisational models.
