Reggio Emilia confirms Dengue fever case; disinfection protocols activated

A case of Dengue fever has been diagnosed in a resident of Reggio Emilia, Italy, who recently returned from traveling in an endemic area. The patient is currently receiving medical care. Dengue is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito and is characterized by high fever, severe joint and muscle pain, pain behind the eyes, and skin rashes.

In response, the Azienda USL IRCCS of Reggio Emilia, in collaboration with the municipalities of Reggio Emilia and Cadelbosco di Sopra, has activated an extraordinary disinfection protocol. This plan, part of the regional arbovirus surveillance and control program, includes adulticide treatments in public areas for three consecutive days, door-to-door larvicidal treatments in private areas, and larvicidal treatments in public manholes.

The municipality of Reggio Emilia has issued an urgent ordinance to facilitate these interventions, which target specific radii around the reported case. These measures aim to reduce the mosquito population and eliminate larval foci. Health authorities have stated that there are currently no other suspected cases and no general health alarm exists.
