Reggio Emilia transport plans under scrutiny: bike‑sharing funds wasted, rail line tram study delayed

Former urban planning and smart‑city councillor Agata Quattrone criticised the handling of the "Reggio in Bici" bike‑sharing scheme, saying the project squandered more than €1.2 million of public funding. Launched in 2019, the service operated only briefly before bikes were vandalised, stations fell into disrepair and a key docking point in Piazza Italia was removed. Quattrone urged the new administration to either revive the concept with competent management or abandon it, stressing that bike sharing remains a useful mobility option if properly run.

Regional councilor Tommaso Fiazza (Lega) has tabled a request to the De Pascale government for an update on the study pledged in September 2025 to assess alternatives for the Reggio‑Ciano railway line, including a possible tram or tram‑train conversion. Provincial and municipal officials echoed the call, warning that the line’s long‑standing operational problems and level‑crossing issues need concrete solutions. They asked for the study’s results and a clear decision on the line’s future as part of the new Regional Integrated Transport Plan.
