Regina Maria launches breast cancer prevention campaign in Romania
The Regina Maria Health Network has launched the 2026 edition of its #CuMamaLaMamo campaign to promote breast cancer prevention. The initiative encourages children to schedule mammograms for their mothers, using common maternal text messages as a prompt for proactive health checks.
Breast cancer remains the most frequent cancer among women in Romania. According to the European Cancer Information System (ECIS), 12,685 new cases and 3,877 deaths were recorded in 2022. While early detection offers a 95% survival rate, Romania reports the lowest mammography screening rate in the European Union. Eurostat data indicates that only 9% of women aged 50–69 in Romania have undergone a mammogram in the last two years, significantly below the European average of approximately 57–60%.
