Breast cancer prevention initiatives in Romania

Overview

Efforts to increase breast cancer screening rates in Romania have expanded through both private and public sector initiatives. The Regina Maria Health Network launched its #CuMamaLaMamo campaign to encourage proactive mammography scheduling, particularly through family involvement.

Following this, the DARIA project (Active Detection, Responsibility, Information, and Access) was introduced to provide free mammography to at least 119,000 women, with a specific focus on socio-economically vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. This project includes the establishment of five regional prevention centers and the use of mobile units to reach remote communities. The increased focus on screening has led to high demand, prompting facilities such as the Arad County Emergency Clinical Hospital to implement supplemental hours to manage patient volume.
