Regional environmental and health initiatives launched in Chile

In the O’Higgins region of Chile, the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Health (Seremi de Salud) conducted a workshop for approximately 60 seventh-year medical students from the University of O’Higgins. The training, facilitated by the Commission for Preventive Medicine and Disability (COMPIN), focused on the clinical, administrative, and legal responsibilities regarding the correct issuance of medical licenses to prevent misuse of public resources.

In the Biobío region, the Ministry of the Environment is implementing the RECOGE Plan for the Queule (Gomortega keule). Participatory workshops and educational field trips were held in several communes, including Los Álamos, Hualqui, Talcahuano, Florida, and Hualpén, to promote the conservation of the species and its native coastal forest habitat.

In the Maule region, the Seremi of Health, the Seremi of the Environment, and the Municipality of Vichuquén launched an Integrated Action Plan for Lake Vichuquén. The initiative aims to manage sanitary risks and water quality through community education, inspection of sewage systems, and water monitoring, including cyanobacteria sampling at Playa Paula scheduled between October 2026 and March 2027.
