Regional food events celebrate Ogura toast and local bakeries in Japan
Regional food culture is being celebrated through various events in Japan. In Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture, the ‘2nd Ogura Toast Stamp Rally’ is underway through September 14, 2026. Participating establishments, including BASE COFFEE ichinomiya, allow customers to collect stamps while enjoying different variations of the traditional Nagoya-style toast. Participants can earn original novelty items by completing the rally.
In Osaka, KITTE Osaka is hosting a local bread event titled ‘Beloved Local Bread with Minori Kai,’ running until September 30. The event features specialized sales held every Wednesday, curated by writer Minori Kai, who coined the term ‘local bread’ to describe traditional bakeries that have been part of community memories since the mid-20th century. The initiative aims to support neighborhood bakeries facing challenges from rising ingredient and packaging costs by encouraging residents to visit local shops regularly.
