Latin American health sectors implement infrastructure and policy updates

Various regional health initiatives and infrastructure improvements are being implemented across Latin America. In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced plans to construct 12,000 new hospital beds by 2030 to address long-term healthcare deficits.

In Argentina, several provinces are advancing health policies. Jujuy has launched the ‘Jujuy Abraza’ program to strengthen territorial mental health and addiction prevention. In Neuquén, 27 medical specialists have been integrated into the permanent public health workforce. Other regional efforts include diabetes training in Formosa, blood donation drives in Las Lomitas, and the expansion of disability services in Melchor Romero.

In Chile, the IPS ChileAtiende has opened a new Virtual Care Center in Putaendo to provide state services to rural residents via video calls. In Venezuela, authorities are rehabilitating medical facilities in Maracaibo and upgrading critical care equipment, including ventilators and incubators, at the Hospital Pablo Acosta Ortiz in Apure. Additionally, in Guatemala, a new Justice Center has been inaugurated in Taxco to improve access to legal and social services.
