Regional health initiatives promote breastfeeding in Venezuela and Mexico

Regional health initiatives in Venezuela and Mexico are focusing on the promotion of breastfeeding to support maternal and infant health.

In Pariaguán, Venezuela, an outdoor community event was held to promote breastfeeding as a fundamental right. The initiative, part of the ‘Plan Parto Humanizado y Lactancia Materna’, provided expectant and nursing mothers with a space to exchange experiences and strengthen emotional support networks. Professionals addressed key aspects of breastfeeding to demystify taboos and emphasize its role in optimal nutrition and immunological development for infants.

In Tamaulipas, Mexico, authorities are implementing breastfeeding guidance within correctional facilities (CEDES) in alignment with World Health Organization objectives. In Ciudad Victoria, incarcerated mothers receive orientation on the health benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child. To support these efforts, the Dirección de Programas Alimentarios provides food supplies to nursing mothers. Most facilities in the state, excluding the all-male center in Nuevo Laredo, offer dedicated areas for mothers and children up to three years of age, where early education and respectful parenting sessions are conducted by CONAFE personnel.
