Regional infrastructure projects advance in Brazil and Portugal
In Brazil, the Government of Goiás is advancing the construction of two 'Mercadões Goianos' market units in the Entorno region of the Federal District. The facility in Santo Antônio do Descoberto is 99% complete, with delivery expected in December 2026. In Valparaíso de Goiás, construction has reached 73%, with an estimated inauguration in March 2027. Each project involves an investment of approximately R$ 45 million and aims to provide infrastructure, including furnished stalls, for small traders and artisans.
The markets will feature approximately 8,500 square meters of space, including fruit and vegetable areas, cold storage, solar energy systems, and professional training rooms. Additionally, a 'Vapt Vupt' public service unit will be integrated into the sites.
In Portugal, the Government of Madeira has launched a 2.1 million euro project to combat coastal erosion on Porto Santo island. The initiative involves dredging 75,000 cubic meters of sediment from the Porto de Abrigo to improve navigability and using that sediment to reinforce the coastal system. Furthermore, 170,000 cubic meters of sand will be used for artificial beach nourishment and dune reconstruction in the Calheta area. The project includes technical and environmental monitoring through 2028.
