Ecuador strengthens childhood malnutrition prevention via community kitchens
The Ecuadorian government, through the Vice Presidency, is strengthening efforts to prevent chronic childhood malnutrition via the ‘Territorios de Bienestar’ project. This initiative coordinates the public sector, private companies, and civil society to promote healthy eating habits, particularly during the critical first 1,000 days of life.
Key components include ‘Ollas Comunitarias’ (community kitchens), which serve as learning spaces where families and caregivers receive guidance from chefs on preparing nutritious, locally sourced meals. The program has already reached over 5,000 beneficiaries through maternal-infant brigades across seven provinces, including Pichincha, Napo, Carchi, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Chimborazo, and Bolívar.
Additionally, the Vice Presidency highlighted economic developments, noting that Ecuador has solidified its position as the world's third-largest flower exporter, with natural flower exports reaching USD 651 million between January and July 2026.
