Regional stock markets show mixed performance in Qatar and Egypt
The Qatar Stock Exchange index closed the week down 0.9%, losing 91.41 points to reach 10,020.84. Financial analyst Yousef Abu Haliqa attributed the decline to regional geopolitical pressures and semi-annual corporate financial results that fell below expectations. The industrial sector saw the largest decline at 3.18%, followed by real estate at 2.06%. Conversely, the telecommunications and transportation sectors recorded slight gains.
In Egypt, the EGX30 main index rose by 0.38% to close at 55,251.59 points, while the market capitalization reached approximately 4.236 trillion Egyptian pounds. The Islamic Sharia index saw a significant jump of 1.35%. Additionally, GlaxoSmithKline has reached a unanimous agreement to merge with its 99.5%-owned subsidiary, Amon Pharmaceutical Industries, as part of a corporate investment restructuring plan.
