Colombia faces security shifts and regional economic updates
Colombia is facing several significant social and security developments. The national government has formally terminated the peace dialogue process with the Coordinadora Nacional Ejército Bolivariano (CNEB), citing a lack of genuine will for peace and reintegration. This decision follows resolutions that revoke the recognition of 21 representatives of the organization.
In the security sector, Colombian military forces in Antioquia successfully recovered two minors who had been victims of forced recruitment by the Subestructura 18, a dissident group led by ‘Iván Mordisco’. During the same operation, an armed combatant surrendered to authorities.
In the Bucaramanga metropolitan area, economic and health sectors are seeing notable shifts. The region has regained its position as having the lowest unemployment rate in Colombia at 7.3%, with 616,000 people currently employed. However, the local healthcare system is under extreme pressure, with emergency services in several clinics and hospitals reporting critical saturation levels, prompting emergency meetings among health authorities to address the crisis.
