Religious pilgrimages draw thousands in Argentina and Ecuador

Religious devotion is driving significant gatherings in South America. In Chimpay, Argentina, thousands of pilgrims gather annually to commemorate the birth of Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá. The celebrations, which include masses, processions, and cultural acts, draw faithful from various provinces and neighboring countries to honor the Mapuche figure known for his life of piety and poverty.

In Ecuador, thousands of devotees recently completed a 75-kilometer pilgrimage to the city of Loja to honor the Virgen del Cisne. The procession traveled from El Cisne through San Pedro de la Bendita and Catamayo, arriving in Loja on August 20. The event, characterized by intense physical effort and traditional songs, precedes the major celebrations for the Virgin on September 8, coinciding with the city's traditional fair.
