Religious pilgrimages in South America
Overview
Religious pilgrimages have drawn significant crowds across South America. In Ecuador, devotees participated in various walks to honor the Virgen del Cisne. This included a traditional ‘Caminata de la Fe’ in Pastaza, where hundreds of pilgrims, including members of the Pastaza National Police, traveled from the Puyo Cathedral to the sanctuary on the Puyo–Macas road.
Other large-scale movements included a 75-kilometer procession from El Cisne through San Pedro de la Bendita and Catamayo to the city of Loja, arriving on August 20. In Argentina, thousands gathered in Chimpay to commemorate the birth of Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá through masses and processions.
