Gospel readings recount the miraculous catch of Simon Peter

The Gospel readings for September 3, 2026, focus on the account of Jesus at the Lake of Gennesaret. While teaching a crowd from Simon's boat, Jesus instructs Simon to put out into deep water and lower his nets.

Despite having caught nothing during the night, Simon follows the command, resulting in a catch so large that the nets begin to tear and both boats nearly sink. Upon witnessing this miracle, Simon Peter expresses his unworthiness, to which Jesus responds by telling him not to be afraid and declaring that he will henceforth be a fisher of men. Following this event, Simon, James, and John leave everything to follow him.
