Religious sites reopen in Italy following restoration works

Two historic religious sites in Italy are set to reopen following extensive restoration projects.

In Turin, the Basilica Mauriziana will reopen for worship on October 25 after seven years of restoration. The project focused on a massive fresco by Paolo Emilo Morgari, created in the mid-19th century, which depicts the ‘Triumph of the Cross’ and features over 300 figures. While the basilica will be accessible for worship immediately, guided tours are scheduled to begin in 2027.

Additionally, the Church of San Paolo is scheduled to reopen for worship on Sunday, October 25, after being closed for over two and a half years for renovations. The reopening ceremony will be presided over by Archbishop Sandro Salvucci of Pesaro. The restoration included the consecration of a new altar and a new baptismal font, supported by donations totaling approximately €59,346.
