Remco Evenepoel faces coaching shuffle before Tour de France as hometown café closes after 120 years

Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel's final preparation for the Tour de France has been unsettled by a last‑minute change in his coaching staff. Andy Schleck has been appointed CEO of the Lidl‑Trek team, and Dan Lorang’s early departure from Red Bull‑Bora Hansgrohe led to Tim Heemskerk taking over as Evenepoel’s trainer just weeks before the race.

At the same time, Schepdaal’s iconic Café In de Rustberg – long known as the supporters' venue for Evenepoel – will close permanently after 120 years of operation. Owners Guy Janssens and Jeanine Massagé cited costly electrical upgrades and a lack of new operators. The cafe will hold a farewell celebration with a bike race and live entertainment on 20 June.
