Remco Evenepoel posts strong start, finishes third in Tour de France time trial
Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel opened the Tour de France with a solid performance. In the opening team time trial in Barcelona his Red Bull‑Bora‑Hansgrohe squad took fifth place, while Evenepoel individually finished third behind Isaac Del Toro and Tadej Pogačar. The result gave him a 16‑second advantage over teammate Florian Lipowitz and moved him to third overall, 15 seconds behind race leader Jonas Vingegaard.
Evenepoel credited his recent two‑month training break and weight loss for his form, though he noted the lack of race‑day competition made the final climbs feel “less punchy”. He described the weekend as a “good start” and said the early results would help him stay focused for the upcoming stages.
Across the first three stages Evenepoel also finished eighth on a mountain stage, indicating consistent form despite the limited preparation window. He remains one of the team’s co‑leaders and aims to improve his standing in the coming days.
