Remco Evenepoel receives family support before tough Vogezen stage of Tour de France
Remco Evenepoel began the 14th stage of the Tour de France with renewed motivation after his wife Oumi and her family greeted him at the start of the demanding Vogezen mountain route. Evenepoel described the stage, featuring the Col du Haag, as "especially heavy" and said the brief family visit gave him extra drive for the upcoming time trial. Team director Klaas Lodewyck noted that the fast stages of the previous days have sharpened the riders and expected significant time gaps after the mountain finish.
In the same stage, Belgian cyclists Maxim Van Gils (fourth) and Tim Wellens (ninth) commented on the result, noting that Pidcock finished only ten seconds behind Evenepoel, a gap they deemed acceptable. The stage was ultimately won by Swiss rider Mauro Schmid, with Pidcock taking third. Their remarks highlighted both the competitive depth of the race and the disappointment of not securing a team classification victory.
The coverage reflects the focus on Belgian riders' performances and morale during a pivotal mountain day in the Tour.
