Evenepoel wins European road cycling title in photo-finish

At the UEC Road European Cycling Championships in Slovenia, Remco Evenepoel secured the men's elite road title following a dramatic photo-finish against Italy's Giulio Ciccone. Despite a mid-race crash, the Belgian rider managed to rejoin the lead group and successfully out-sprinted Ciccone by mere centimeters to claim his first European road title.

Italy saw a strong performance with Christian Scaroni taking the bronze medal. Ciccone expressed both disappointment over the narrow loss and pride in his competitive display, noting the strategic difficulty of the final kilometers.

In the women's elite category, Demi Vollering made history by becoming the first rider to win both the World and European road titles in the same year. The Dutch cyclist dominated the race in Slovenia, finishing ahead of compatriot Puck Pieterse and Switzerland's Marlen Reusser.

Other notable results included Josse Nonneman winning the DEWO Europe Criterium in Belgium and various podium finishes in junior and developmental categories.
