Remco Evenepoel's Tour chances doubted by former pros

Former professional Michael Boogerd said Remco Evenepoel lacks a strong track record in Grand Tours, noting that even his Vuelta win was not impressive. He described Evenepoel as more of a one‑day racer who would struggle against the mountain pace set by Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard in the Tour de France.

Cycling analyst Benji Naesen echoed the criticism, stating he has not seen a top‑level climbing performance from Evenepoel since 2024 despite a high FTP figure. Naesen also commented on the broader Belgian cycling scene, mentioning Wout van Aert's recent stage win in the Tour Auvergne‑Rhône‑Alpes and his ongoing medical examinations. Both commentators suggest Evenepoel is unlikely to pose a serious threat to the current Tour favourites.
