Remedy director explains design choices for Control Resonant
Remedy Entertainment director Mikael Kasurinen has explained the design philosophy behind the exploration mechanics in the upcoming open-world game, Control Resonant. Speaking on the Dropping Frames podcast, Kasurinen stated that the development team intentionally avoided using overt visual cues, such as “yellow paint” or flashing arrows, to guide players through the game's zones.
Kasurinen emphasized the importance of player agency, noting that the goal is for players to feel like active participants who are “the ones figuring it out” rather than following a predetermined path. While acknowledging that this approach risks alienating players who prefer a more guided or simple experience, he argued that it creates a more rewarding and engaging environment for those who dive deep into the world. The design aims to encourage players to make their own decisions and question their choices, fostering long-term engagement and exploration.
