Renan Hédouville returns to Haiti following U.S. deportation

Renan Hédouville, the former Protecteur du citoyen in Haiti, has returned to Cap-Haïtien following his deportation from the United States. According to reports, Hédouville had entered the U.S. legally in May 2025 but was subsequently expelled by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying his authorized period of stay.

Hédouville’s tenure as Protecteur du citoyen, which began in October 2017, was marked by allegations of favoritism and nepotism from human rights organizations. Additionally, he was sought by the ULCC in connection with investigations involving the illegal awarding of public contracts, abuse of office, embezzlement of public funds, and obstruction of justice.
