Haitian repatriation from the Bahamas and United States

Overview

Repatriation efforts of Haitian nationals from the Bahamas and the United States have increased. On August 27, 2026, 161 individuals arrived at Cap-Haïtien International Airport, including 104 from the Bahamas and 57 via a charter flight from the United States. The U.S. group included former beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and the ‘Parole’ humanitarian program, as well as individuals with pending asylum claims.

Following these large-scale repatriations, former Protecteur du citoyen Renan Hédouville also returned to Cap-Haïtien after being expelled by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying his legal entry. Hédouville had previously faced investigations in Haiti regarding allegations of embezzlement, abuse of office, and the illegal awarding of public contracts.
