Moldovan politicians propose stricter domestic violence laws

Following a tragedy in Măgdăcești, Moldovan political figures and lawmakers are calling for strengthened protections against domestic violence. Renato Usatîi, leader of the Our Party (Partidul Nostru), announced that his team is developing a legislative initiative to increase accountability and penalties for acts of violence against women.

During parliamentary hearings, MP Angela Cutasevici argued that children who witness domestic abuse must be legally treated as victims, even if they are not the direct targets of physical aggression. Additionally, Elena Grițco emphasized the importance of timely institutional intervention and reminded women that they have a right to protection and should not feel ashamed to seek help.

Usatîi criticized the current tendency to offer condolences and discussions without implementing preventative measures, noting that while political figures often support women's rights during campaigns, victims frequently remain unprotected in practice.
