Renault to launch first official brand EV in Japan on November 19

Renault Japon has announced the November 19 release of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, marking the first time an electric vehicle from the Renault brand will be officially introduced to the Japanese market.

Produced in France, the compact EV is a modern reinterpretation of the original 1972 Renault 5. It features a 52kWh battery providing a driving range of 405km on a single charge, powered by a proprietary electric motor delivering 150ps and 245Nm of torque. The vehicle utilizes a dedicated EV platform and a multi-link rear suspension to ensure stable handling.

The design incorporates retro elements, such as vertical rear combination lamps and a charging indicator on the hood shaped like the number ‘5’. Inside, the cabin features a two-tier dashboard and seating inspired by the ‘Renault 5 Turbo’, paired with a 10-inch digital instrument panel and a 10-inch ‘openR link’ multimedia system integrated with Google services for voice commands and EV-optimized route guidance.
