Renault tops Turkey's May 2026 auto sales as market shrinks
The Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) released official figures for Turkey's May 2026 vehicle market. Renault remained the leader with 10,926 units sold, followed by Volkswagen (7,374) and Fiat (6,310). Overall, the Turkish passenger‑car and light‑commercial‑vehicle market fell 7.4 % year‑on‑year for the January‑May period, with May alone reflecting a contraction linked to tighter credit conditions and higher interest rates.
In the electric‑vehicle segment, domestic brand Togg dominated, delivering 3,505 units in May and solidifying its lead over rivals such as Tesla (370 units) and Chinese manufacturers Chery (2,200) and BYD (152). The data also show the most popular models, with the Renault Clio topping the list of best‑selling cars.
These figures highlight a slowdown in Turkey's automotive sector while confirming Renault’s continued market dominance and Togg’s growing influence in the EV market.
