Renault Twingo and Citroën 2CV revive affordable electric city cars in Europe
Renault has introduced the new electric Twingo, priced around €20,000 before government incentives and offering 82 hp from a 27.5 kWh battery. The compact hatchback seats four, features sliding rear seats and a modest cargo capacity of up to 305 litres, aiming at urban drivers seeking a low‑cost EV.
Citroën, under Stellantis, unveiled concept images of a future electric 2CV slated for a 2026 launch. The model is intended to provide a cheap, retro‑styled city car as Europe’s small‑car production shrinks and competition from Chinese manufacturers intensifies. EU regulators are also exploring categories to lower costs for low‑price electric vehicles, supporting the market niche these models target.
