Renault expands electric urban vehicle lineup with Twingo and R5 updates

Renault is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with a focus on urban mobility and efficiency. The upcoming Twingo E-Tech is designed as a budget-friendly city car, utilizing a 27.5 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. Rather than prioritizing high range, the model emphasizes lower energy consumption and reduced costs, offering an estimated range of up to 263 km under the WLTP cycle.

Additionally, the Renault 5 E-Tech has seen recent technical refinements. Improvements in aerodynamics and the use of low-rolling-resistance Continental EcoContact 7 tires have contributed to increased range across various trims. For instance, the 52 kWh battery version now reaches 431 km WLTP, up from 416 km, while the 40 kWh version has increased from 312 to 321 km.

The company's strategy places these models in direct competition with other affordable electric urban vehicles, such as the BYD Dolphin Surf and the Hyundai Inster, as manufacturers race to capture the growing market for accessible electric city cars.
