Renault Twingo to Return as Affordable Electric City Car in 2026

Renault announced that the iconic Twingo will be relaunched as an electric vehicle, the Twingo E‑Tech, in early 2026. The new model will be priced at under €20,000 before any subsidies, aiming to bring a low‑cost electric option to European city streets.

The design pays direct homage to the original 1990s Twingo, retaining the rounded LED headlights, a smiling grille and bright colour options, while adding a fifth door and extending the length to 3.79 m for more interior space. Its compact turning circle of 9.87 m preserves the car’s ease of parking.

Development was carried out at Renault’s Shanghai centre with Chinese suppliers to keep costs down, but final assembly will be 100 % European at the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia. The launch follows Renault’s recent revival of other classic models such as the Renault 5 and Renault 4, and builds on the original Twingo’s legacy of more than 4.1 million units sold in 25 countries.
