Renewable energy and EV adoption grow in Vietnam and Philippines
Vietnam is seeing significant growth in renewable energy, with rooftop solar capacity reaching approximately 11,000 MWp nationwide. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam's electricity demand is increasing by roughly 10% annually. To meet future goals, the government is encouraging self-produced and self-consumed solar systems, including battery storage. Authorities are also working to revise the Electricity Law and update Power Development Plan VIII to address delays in energy and grid projects.
In the Philippines, electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for nearly 24.7% of total vehicle sales between January and August 2026. Of the 66,685 electrified vehicles sold, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) made up the largest share, followed by hybrids (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). To support this shift, the Philippines has expanded its infrastructure to include 1,876 registered charging and battery-swapping points. Additionally, Vietnamese automaker VinFast is expanding its presence in the Philippine market through partnerships to develop new showrooms.
