Philippine automotive market trends

Overview

The Philippine automotive market has experienced a recent decline in total vehicle sales, with August figures showing a 20.7 percent drop compared to July. Industry groups CAMPI and TMA attributed this downturn to severe weather conditions that hindered dealership operations and consumer activity.

Despite the overall decline in sales, the electric vehicle (xEV) segment continues to show growth. Between January and August 2026, electrified vehicles accounted for nearly 24.7 percent of total vehicle sales, totaling 66,685 units. Within this segment, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) represented the largest share, followed by hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

To support this transition, the Philippines has expanded its infrastructure to include 1,876 registered charging and battery-swapping points. Manufacturers continue to implement promotional programs, such as GAC Philippines offering complimentary chargers and maintenance services. While Toyota maintains a lead in the HEV category, other brands like VinFast, Jetour, and Mitsubishi are gaining traction. Notably, Vietnamese automaker VinFast is expanding its Philippine presence through partnerships to develop new showrooms.
