Renewable energy capacity expands in the United States
Renewable energy sources are seeing significant growth in the United States. Solar power and battery storage accounted for 70% of new electrical capacity in the second quarter of 2026. According to reports from SEIA and Wood Mackenzie, approximately 11.4 gigawatts of DC were installed in the solar industry during this period, marking a 45% increase compared to 2025. While the residential segment saw a 12% year-over-year decrease, the commercial sector grew by 11%, highlighting a shift toward large-scale industrial renewable applications.
In the offshore sector, wind energy projects such as Revolution Wind, South Fork Wind, and Block Island Wind are contributing to the grid. These 65 turbines generate 704 MW of electricity, enough to power approximately 350,000 homes and businesses. Local fishing communities have noted that the offshore turbines, while massive, produce minimal noise and have become part of the local marine environment.
