Renewable energy projects face setbacks in Australia and New York
The Oven Mountain Pumped Hydro project in the New England renewable energy zone has been cancelled. Proponents cited economic and timing challenges regarding key project elements, including a critical transmission line, as the reasons for discontinuing work after years of technical studies and planning.
In New York, the state Department of Public Service rescinded a crucial water-quality permit for the $3.26 billion Propel NY Energy project. While the agency described the move as an administrative step to ensure the application is properly filed on the public docket for transparency, observers noted the significance of the decision occurring just one month before work on the 90-mile cable was scheduled to begin.
