Reniec implements measures for Peru's 2026 elections

Peru's National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) has implemented several measures to prepare for the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections. The agency has detected 38,000 irregular address changes linked to ‘voto golondrino’ (migratory voting), a practice involving false addresses to manipulate electoral rolls. In response, Reniec conducted over 68,000 home inspections, successfully restoring 1,662 addresses in Ayacucho alone.

To facilitate voter identification, Reniec is offering free electronic DNI (DNIe) issuance until September 27 in Lima and 21 regions. The program targets elderly citizens, orphans, and those in medical emergencies. Additionally, the agency has expanded service hours in several Lima districts and regional offices in Loreto, Ayacucho, Ucayali, Ica, and Puno to assist with DNI processing.

Furthermore, Reniec has enabled appointment-based services in Huánuco, Tumbes, Iquitos, and Tacna for DNI renewals, updates, and rectifications to streamline administrative procedures ahead of the upcoming elections.
